GULU CITY TOUR & SKATING EXPERIENCE

A day

This is a full-day city tour designed to help you reconnect with the stories, the culture, and the pulse of this town we call home. Whether you’ve lived in Gulu all your life or are visiting for a short time, this tour offers a fresh lens to experience it all and ends with a fun skate session for beginners and pros alike.

GULU MUSEUM

We begin the day at the Gulu Museum, tucked away at the Ker Kal Acholi, the symbolic home of Acholi cultural preservation. While here, you'll listen and view a collection of untold stories, Acholi heritage, and everyday items from our grandparents’ time. You’ll see traditional tools, musical instruments, clan symbols, and even old household items that remind you of village life. A guide will walk us through each section, with stories that bring the exhibits to life.

ST. JOSEPH’S CATHEDRAL

Our next stop is the towering St. Joseph’s Cathedral, a spiritual and architectural icon that has watched over Gulu since its construction between 1931 and 1941. Built with over 800,000 locally made bricks and shaped by the hands of the community, the cathedral stands as a symbol of faith, resilience, and collective effort. During our short guided tour, you'll discover the remarkable story behind its construction, its powerful role as a sanctuary during the war, and its continued place at the heart of Gulu’s spiritual and cultural identity.

PECE WAR MEMORIAL STADIUM

Next, we head to Pece War Memorial Stadium, a place that holds more than just sports history. Built as a tribute to the Acholi men who served in the King’s African Rifles during World War II, this stadium stands as a living reminder of their courage and sacrifice. It’s not just a sports ground; it’s a space where history and identity come together. As you stand here, you'll learn about how young men from Northern Uganda were recruited to fight in a war far from home and how their stories live on in this very place. After taking it in, you’ll move to a designated spot for a healthy lunch, resting and refueling for the fun-filled afternoon ahead.

SKATING EXPERIENCE

To wrap up the day, we head to Kaunda Grounds, Gulu’s go-to spot for skateboarding. Over the past few years, this open space has become a vibrant hub where young skaters gather to ride, train, and grow a skate culture of their own. You’ll join a community skate session guided by your wellness coach, open to everyone, whether you're a seasoned pro or lacing up for the first time. Beginners will get hands-on support to get rolling, while more experienced skaters can glide freely and share a few tips along the way. There’ll be cheers, a few falls, and a whole lot of laughter. It’s a raw, real, and energizing moment of movement and joy. Here, it’s not about perfecting tricks, it’s about being present. Feeling your body in motion, the breeze on your skin, and the freedom of trying something new. As the session winds down, you’ll leave not just refreshed, but more grounded and connected to yourself, to others, and to the vibrant, playful spirit of Gulu.

BASIC TERMS

This is a conscious tourism experience that will have your perspectives challenged and broadened as you experience a new culture and hopefully gain fresh insights. Here are a few things you should know;

  • We do our absolute best to keep to the Programme and timings but sometimes the weather/animals/roads/slow rhythm of village life gets the better of us!
  • Respect of the community and local culture is paramount. We recommend modest clothes that covers the knees for the ladies to avoid discomfort for the locals and some very long uncomfortable stares.
  • Taking of photos with consent from parties involved is also to be observed. We do not recommend taking photos of children during the experience
  • Hill trail can be rough and the rock is pretty sun exposed during dry seasons, we recommend wearing long sleeve shirts and pants
  • In the rural area , only pit latrines (hole in the ground) are available.
