The “Devil's Cauldron” of Murchison

3 days / 2 nights

This safari is designed for you to Experience the best of Murchison Falls in three days with a hit on Uganda’s best wildlife

RHINO TRACKING AT ZIWA

Your 6 hour journey begins early from Kampala toward Murchison Falls. Our first major stop is the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, a 7,000-hectare private reserve dedicated to bringing rhinos back to Uganda. You’ll head out on foot with specialized rangers who will teach you how to read the bush and track these 2,000kg giants safely. It is a quiet, exhilarating experience. After the trek, we’ll have a hearty lunch at the sanctuary before continuing north. As we enter the park through the Kichumbanyobo gate, the thick mahogany trees of the Budongo Forest will surround us before the landscape eventually opens up. We’ll reach the lodge by evening for dinner and a night under the stars.

THE BULIGI TRACKS

On this day, you'll wake up early as we’ll cross the river early to explore the Buligi game tracks. The best wildlife viewing is on the northern bank. This area, nestled between the Victoria and Albert Niles, is classic African savannah. We’ll be looking for the "Big Four" alongside the world's largest population of Rothschild giraffes. In the afternoon after lunch, we'll go on a boat cruise for a three-hour journey toward the base of the falls. You’ll drift past massive hippo pods and on a good day past some of the largest Nile crocodiles in Africa. The boat gets as close as safely possible to the "Devil's Cauldron," where the Nile explodes through a narrow 7-meter gorge. From here, we’ll take the hike up the ridge to the Top of the Falls. Standing at the summit, you’ll see the river vanish into a wall of white mist and rainbows, feeling the literal vibration of the water through your feet. It is a sensory overload in the best way possible. We’ll return to the lodge in the evening to relax and share stories of the day.

RETURN TO KAMPALA

After a relaxed breakfast, we begin our journey back. As we leave the park, we’ll drive through the rolling hills of the Nakasongola district. The drive back is a great time to scroll through your photos and reflect on the contrast between the quiet savanna and the roaring falls. We’ll stop for lunch along the way and aim to have you back in Kampala by late afternoon, marking the end of your Murchison adventure.

BASIC TERMS

This is a conscious tourism experience that will have your perspectives challenged and broadened as you experience a
new culture and hopefully gain fresh insights. Here are a few things you should know;

  • We do our absolute best to keep to the Programme and timings but sometimes the weather/animals/roads/slow
rhythm of village life gets the better of us!
  • Respect of the community and local culture is paramount. We recommend modest clothes that covers the knees for
the ladies to avoid discomfort for the locals and some very long uncomfortable stares.
  • Taking of photos with consent from parties involved is also to be observed. We do not recommend taking photos of
    children during the experience
  • The Ajulu Hill trail can be rough and the rock is pretty sun exposed during dry seasons, we recommend wearing long
    sleeve shirts and pants
  • In the rural area , only pit latrines (hole in the ground) are available. P.S -Including squats in your exercise routine will
    get you started for sure
  •
