Loremi Tours

Recently, we had the honour of hosting Amb. Rosa Malango, Special Presidential Envoy on Tourism and Trade, for an Acholi cultural experience.

The Experience took us through important parts of our history, the slave trade trail and the LRA war trail where the past is still felt in the land and remembered by the people.

She also took part in the Royal Bwola initiation dance, a key moment in welcoming her into the culture. During this, she was given the name Aciro, and her son was named Rwot-Omia.

Reflecting on the experience on LinkedIn, she wrote:

“This was an amazing educational immersion experience which I totally recommend.
The team led by Gloria was professional, highly knowledgeable and very flexible.
They created a lifelong of memories which my son spoke about at school upon our return .
I did not know there was a gate of no return linked to slavery with Arab kingdoms that evolved from the ivory trade. I was heartbroken to see the remnants of a modern day massacre by the Lord’s Resistance Army, one of the world’s most brutal insurgents, including a former Internally Displaced Persons camp turned soccer field. I was blown away by the intricacies of the naming ceremony including an energetic welcoming dance that leads to a discussion about your character with the elders who give you and your family members a new name.
My son and I felt we had been blessed by ancient civilizations

So yes, schedule and plan to explore Uganda and enjoy the unique experiences at Destination Acholi in Gulu”

In Acholi tradition, names are deeply meaningful and are often inspired by the circumstances surrounding pregnancy, birth, or significant life events. They reflect resilience, emotion, history, and the lived experiences of individuals and families. The name Aciro is given to one who has endured or persevered through challenges. It symbolizes strength, patience, and triumph over adversity.
