TRUE AFRICAN WILDERNESS

4days /3 nights

Tucked away in the north eastern corner of Uganda is its best kept secret: Kidepo Valley National Park. Kidepo is an unspoiled wilderness of lush green valleys, dramatic mountain ranges, spectacular night skies and amazing sunrises. Uniquely in Uganda, it is home to huge herds of buffalo and mighty prides of lion as well as zebra, eland, cheetah, leopard, ostrich, giraffe, elephant and a variety of endemic bird species. You can easily combine a trip to Kidepo with Aruu Falls.

KAMPALA TO GULU

Embark on an early start for the 5-6 hours’ drive to Gulu for an experience of the rich flavors and vibrant tapestry of Acholi cultural heritage. This delightful journey into the heart of Northern Uganda’s flavorful tradition offers a chance to experience the soulful food culture, remarkable entertainment and impactful historical events. Upon arrival, we shall check into the hotel and thereafter set off to Patiko Village for a cultural adventure like none other.

GULU TO KIDEPO

An early start for the 2 hours’ drive to Kitgum where we shall stopover for Lagoro festival and thereafter proceed to Karenga which is the last town to the park. The contrast is stark in every way. You will arrive at your accommodation in the late afternoon having taken lunch along the way, enjoy the scenery from the cool shade as you relax from the long drive. Rated by CNN travel as the most picturesque park in Africa, Kidepo is a true hidden gem with breathtaking scenery. In the evening you will climb Amorphous Rock to enjoy the best of the Views as the sun sets, while your chef prepares dinner, which you will enjoy beneath the amazing night skies.

GAME DRIVE

Wake up in the middle of the action and watch the sunrise over the Morongole mountains with a coffee and some fresh fruits. Then we begin our day of game viewing with another visit into the Narus valley in search of lions, elephants, giraffes, elands, zebras, and leopards and to marvel at the sight of the huge herd of buffalo grazing in the wetland. We return to the hotel for lunch and after some rest we’ll leave the hotel and set off 4-5 hours’ drive through the rugged landscape (and roads!) of northern Uganda as we head back to Gulu through Pader where we shall have stopover at Aruu Falls for a few minutes on our way

BASIC TERMS

This is a conscious tourism experience that will have your perspectives challenged and broadened as you experience a new culture and hopefully gain fresh insights. Here are a few things you should know;

  • We do our absolute best to keep to the Programme and timings but sometimes the weather/animals/roads/slow rhythm of village life gets the better of us!
  • Respect of the community and local culture is paramount. We recommend modest clothes that covers the knees for the ladies to avoid discomfort for the locals and some very long uncomfortable stares.
  • Taking of photos with consent from parties involved is also to be observed. We do not recommend taking photos of children during the experience
  • Hill trail can be rough and the rock is pretty sun exposed during dry seasons, we recommend wearing long sleeve shirts and pants
  • In the rural area , only pit latrines (hole in the ground) are available.
